AEE APAC Pre-Conference Masterclasses

Designing for Complexity: How Groups Think, Decide & Adapt

Most experiential learning focuses on activities. This masterclass focuses on judgment.

Designed for experienced facilitators, educators, and organizational leaders, this immersive learning experience explores how groups make decisions, navigate uncertainty, and adapt together inside complex systems.

Rather than presenting a collection of disconnected activities, this masterclass functions as a carefully sequenced learning arc where play becomes the entry point, pedagogy becomes the organizing structure, and neuroscience provides the language for understanding why certain experiences create lasting impact.

Participants will step directly into simulations, strategy labs, and facilitated experiences that surface the invisible dynamics shaping communication, consensus, leadership, and collaboration. Through expert co-facilitation, participants will not only engage with the content itself, but also observe how facilitation decisions are made in real time, how roles shift fluidly, and how disagreement can become productive rather than divisive.

This is a masterclass for practitioners who are less interested in collecting more tools, and more interested in refining how they decide what to do, when to do it, and why it matters.

At its core, this experience is about helping people design learning environments that are rigorous without rigidity, playful without being shallow, and deeply aligned with how humans actually think, communicate, and adapt together.

Here’s How You Will Benefit

By the end of this masterclass, you will:

  • Develop a stronger understanding of how groups think, decide, and adapt under complexity
  • Strengthen your facilitation judgment in moments of uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Experience simulations and learning labs that reveal hidden dynamics around consensus, communication, and strategy
  • Learn practical frameworks for facilitating collective sensemaking and adaptive leadership
  • Explore how neuroscience supports experiential learning, decision-making, and behavior change
  • Observe expert co-facilitation in real time, including role flexibility, transparent decision-making, and shared leadership
  • Gain transferable facilitation protocols for strategy, communication, collaboration, and systems thinking
  • Design learning experiences that prioritize reflection, adaptation, and meaningful transfer
